TYPES OF ACCIDENTS

  • Offshore Oil Rig Accidents – In Texas, oil rigs are a regular sight. The need to extract natural resources is a huge part of our economy. Offshore oil rigs are structures that enable companies to extract oil and gas from underneath the ocean floor. The extraction process is volatile, dangerous, and prone to fires and explosions.
  • Fishing Accidents – Commercial fishermen risk their lives on rough waters to help keep the seafood industry stocked with fresh fish and other such items. Fishing vessels must be kept as seaworthy and safe as possible to withstand bad weather and large, heavy hauls.
  • Tugboat Accidents – Tugs move other larger vessels, and in the process of tugging, they run the risk of collisions, endangering both the crew of the tugboat as well as the seamen aboard vessel it is towing.
  • Barge Accidents – Barge accidents are common in the Gulf Coast area, and are a critical and commonly used form of maritime transportation. Due to the size and weight of most barges, when these offshore vessels are involved in impact accidents, the results are often catastrophic for the seamen and crewmembers, and the environment.
  • Marine Crane Accidents – Cranes are commonly used in maritime work to help move heavy items like cargo and equipment. The crane operator must be well-trained and focused in order to avoid dropping his or her load, tipping over, or creating other offshore dangers.
  • Cruise Ship Mishaps – Since cruise ships are seagoing vessels, the crew aboard them can qualify as Jones Act seamen and recover the associated damages when injured on the job. Passengers can also maintain injury claims for incidents that occur during their vacation travels.
  • Oil Tanker Accidents – Oil tankers move large amounts of oil in various stages of the refinement process. The oil products must be loaded and unloaded and at each phase of this process, severe accidents can occur, injuring or killing offshore workers.
  • Dredge Accidents – Dredges clear out the ocean floor so that maritime activity can be expanded in certain areas. In order to move sediment and other items on the sea floor, a dredge must exert significant force against the water and to move the materials. The power and size of dredging materials can cause maritime accidents when not used carefully.
